Play Robo Miner on your iPhone, your iPad or even your iPod Touch!

The Original Robo Miner game was finally ported to iOS and is freshly available in iTunes!

itunes.apple.com/us/app/robo-miner-the-original/id1238761399

Many, many players waited for this - and now it came true - Robo Miner is finally also available for your iPhone.

The process was a bit exhausting, because some asian guy has misleadingly used some terms from our game. We are going to take legal action against that clown, who also used a lot of keyword spam in his template apps.

Whatever. Robo Miner made it's way on the iTunes App Store just some hours ago and should be available for download all over the world now.

itunes.apple.com/us/app/robo-miner-the-original/id1238761399

What you will get is the original Robo Miner Game with axactly the same features as everyone knows from other versions of the game - just the original Robo Miner Game.

The game is still available for free - unfortunately at this moment in time, there is no way to buy a premium adfree version, if demand by players is big enough we may want to add this feature in the future.

Have Fun playing Robo Miner on your iPhone!!

Robo Miner - Robo Miner WASD Keys

Initially Robo Miner for PC was made to use the Arrow Keys only. Right at the start of Robo Miner being released on Steam for Windows PCs Players said, they would like to play the games with the WASD Keys also.

Upon that an update was released so now players can either use standard Arrow Keys or just use the WASD Keys to move the robot.

There is still no proper keyb mapping in the game, this may be added with a later update.

Hopefully, the WASD Support will be in the favour of some players and make them a better Robo Mining Epxerience.

Happy Mining!

Robo Miner - Robo Miner Fullscreen Mode

Robo Miner for PC features a true Fullscreen Mode.

To toggle between Fullscreen and Windows Mode just press F11 during playing.

This was added to the Steam Version of Robo Miner during it's first release week, where players said, they would like to have true Fullscreen Mode in Robo Miner.

That feature was then added to the game and now you can enjoy Robo Miner in Fullscreen Mode on your Windows Workstation! How cool's that?!

Robo Miner - Robo Miner is now on STEAM

You can now play Robo Miner on your PC and to do so you can now get it on STEAM

The problem was that on several computers the lately released tech demo of Age Of Asteroids was not rendering several models. There was no error or such, the models just didn't get rendered.

Eventually I was able to reproduce this behaviour on on eof my machines so I could start digging deep in what was going on. Tried multiple things, put out more debug and logs but was not able to find the issue.

Later in the evening - i just wanted to give up - I've found out that this pronlem is only with the preparsed x-file models and only if they have a bigger amount of vertices inside it. That's an hint.

After a loooong search and try'n'error I stumbled upon a line of code, where I accidentaly multiplid the indizes count by 3 (instead of dividing) to get the actual face count (primitive count) which is used later for rendering.

Someone would believe that rendering too much primitives in a draw call would issue on error. well it did not. I also do not know why this only led to disappearing models on other machines than my dev machine. Maybe at the dev is a bigger range for actual primitive count and there was an overflow on the other machines resulting in negative primitive count.

BUt that was a not very productive day, issued by an fault I did months back :-)

Happy enough, beside that error, there are not so many errors in the tech demo - yeah!

Have a try, you can find it at www.indiedb.com/games/age-of-asteroids to have a look at the now working demo

Personal Blog - GIMP: Selecting a Layer by Clicking the Image

I've just found that it is worth to tell that information, because it may not be easy to find out :-)

When doing my Texture/sprite Maps in Gimp I often end up with a lot of layers and selecting them in the Layer-Window get's quite frustrating.

You may know already, that you can move a layer by clicking on it in the image and just move it around. As soon as you release the mousebutton your layer before is selected again.

This is helpful in many situations, but if you have a lot of layers, this gets unpractical.

You can just open up the Menu Edit - Preferences/OPtions and then open the tab with the Tool-Options. At the bottom you find a checkbox, which just do what I need.

Once checked, every time I use the move tool, the clicked layer will stay selected.

Hopyfully, this is helpful for one or the other :-)

Age of Asteroids - Age of Asteroids now on Greenlight

If you have some minutes, I would invite you to have a look at the Age of Asteroids Greenlight Campaign to get the game on steam.

Strategic Missiles are another key element of the game - if you can afford to build them. They can be used to fire some explosives at another asteroid to either weaken the local defense or just to hurt the enemy in times, when you cannot afford or are not willed to send a real fleet there.
Missile Factories

In order to build them, you have to maintain Missile Factory Modules. Once crafted, those missiles are stored in the underground system of the asteroid and can be launched by Missile Launch Modules. As more Launch Modules you have as more missiles can be launched at once, effectively decreasing the chance of the enemy to counteract with Anti-Missile-Defense.
Missile Aiming

For each attack you can select an asteroid as the target and also set the approaching vector on the target asteroid. Missiles are not extremely accurate. While they all will hit the target asteroid it is impossible to directly set a point target for them. Instead you can decide which side of the asteroid they shall approach and they will impact there - with a bit of spreading.
Missile Types

There will be different types of Missiles. Some will just explode locally, some other will detonate with more or less damge, damage over time. There will be Vortex Missiles as well. Those are generating a powerful vortex traveling over the asteroid surface and damaging everything on its way.

Some missiles are powerful enough to deform the surface and some may have a chance to vaporize a whole asteroid. Fusion or Atomic Missles for example. In resource spare areas like the space, those missiles will be highly expensive too build.
Missile Defense

There are ways to defend yourself against missile strikes. The easist way will be to build some surface shields and/or beam-powered defense towers. The defense towers will be able to track the approaching missiles and concentrate their beam on them, aiming to let them detonate before they reach the ground.
Any feedback?

Let me know, what you think about this feature, also feel free to suggest different other missile types you want to see in Age of Asteroids!
Rebirth

As an old-school Wing Commander Fan - and I also liked the X-Games - I was optimistic about the new X: Rebirth.

Some days ago time was there and I was able to download and install. There were some cool trailers, and so much was told about new features and stuff, so I was excited :-)

After starting the game up there was the first big dissapointment. The graphics look awful. I mean really. Sure. They have populated the universe and it looks very vital, very lively. So in Space everything would be acceptable, because textures are not the big concerns. The feeling is right.

BUT

They decided that you can now enter space stations and ships with your avatar and run around in First person View. Well. Nice idea. Annoying, but nice. And the graphics THERE .. you'll get eye cancer from. It does more look like a game from the last century.

There is also no big reason to run around in spacer stations. Always the same cut scenes (not skipable!!). Bah.

I see the reason, what they were intended to do. They want to make a very realistic universe. But they may have failed with it. They just thought it would be that easy and I think, they were just low on time, so they never brought it to an acceptable quality.

Speech is horrible. Not very much flair. Animations are horrible. Junky, blocky, no lip sync (lips doesn't move at all). 10 years ago, that would be no problem. Nowadays, they should have discarded any real-time-interactions at all and should've been stick with image animations onscreen like it was in the prior X Games.

Steering is .. .. I am not sure if I can evaluate this. Maybe there is too much time passed and I've just lost feel for it. But in comparison to modern sim games, it feels not right - but at least I can play with my Saitek X52. Whic works, but there is a horrible dead-zone (which is not configurabel in game).

Nvidia Surround does work so far, but be prepared that this will have an big impact on game performance. So I had to lower graphics settings to make it smooth. On Single-Screen everything was fine on my GTX 670.

And there are bugs. The game just feels uncomplete. Feels like a beta. Just does not feel to be thought to the end. I would guess there will be bugfixes and patches and the game may get much better with some time but at the moment, you should only get it, when you feel comfortable with playing a game which feels a bit like a beta game.

If someone would ask me, I would say, they were low on budget and in need to release, before there graphics engine gets even more out-dated.

Is it worth the money... hmm .. I would say no, not at the moment. There is just too much hassle and too much annoying things. Like the always-the-same station docking, always the same cut scenes, useless boxes on stations which you can open .. it just feels, that they wanted to be a GTA but only started with little things and never thought them to the end.
I would suggest to wait for a deal and stick to the older X-Games for now. There is many work involved in X: Rebirth for sure, but it just feels like an very old game, not like a modern one and therefore it is not worth the money for a modern game.
